1997 WAS WALSH UNIVERSITY'S 3rd SEASON OF NAIA FOOTBALL.
COACH JIM DENNISON IS THE HEAD COACH.
COACH DENNISON HAS LED THE" CAVALIERS" TO A 7-3 RECORD IN THEIR INITIAL SEASON('95), TO A 6-5 RECORD IN '96, TO A 7-3 RECORD IN 1997,TO A 6-5 RECORD IN 1998 AND A 7-3 RECORD AND #24 NATIONAL RANKING IN 1999!
1997 WAS THE YEAR COACH DENNISON EARNED HIS 100th CARREER COLLEGE VICTORY(100-73-2),AS WALSH DEFEATED CROSSTOWN FOE, MALONE COLLEGE.
THE MALONE VICTORY ALSO BROUGHT TO WALSH THE DICK GALLAGHER MEMORIAL TROPHY FOR THE FIRST TIME IN WALSH'S FOOTBALL HISTORY.
1997 WAS THE 1st TIME ALL TEAM CAPTAINS WERE SENIORS (and will be hence-forth).
WALSH PLAYS IN THE MID STATES FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION (MSFA), THE TOUGHEST LEAGUE IN THE NAIA.
WALSH PLAYED AND WON IT'S 1st EVER OVERTIME GAME ON OCTOBER 10, 1998 AGAINST URBANA UNIVERSITY. IT WAS AGAINST URBANA UNIVERITY THAT WALSH WON IT'S 1st GAME EVER IN 1995!
WALSH PLAYED AND WON IT'S 1st EVER DOUBLE-OVERTIME GAME ON OCTOBER 17, 1998 AGAINST THE UNIVERSITY OF ST. FRANCIS!
WALSH PLAYED AND LOST IT'S 1st EVER TRIPLE-OVERTIME GAME ON NOVEMBER 7, 1998 AGAINST McKENDREE COLLEGE!
DURING THE 1998 SEASON, WALSH UNIVERSITY PLAYED IN FOUR OVERTIME GAMES
THE CAVALIERS HAVE HELPED TO FEED 74 STARK COUNTY FAMILIES DURING THE '95, '96, '97 SEASONS THROUGH THE "SACK FOR A SACK" PROGRAM.
WALSH UNIVERSITY HAS A 70% WINNING MARGIN FOR AWAY GAMES!
